ballet in two acts based on Molière's play
world premiere 21st February 2020
performance for ages 16 and over
Where do love and understanding hide? Are we able to set ourselves free from our traumatic childhood experiences? Why do we keep making the same mistakes in our relationships? The story of Don Juan still surprises, as proven by Robert Bondara in his captivating ballet interpretation of the fate of the heartbreaker of Sevilla.
Bondara’s Don Juan is a man who is missing compassion, rejected by his father, raised in a belief that sensitivity equals weakness. His character is best reflected in the choreography of the duets, which is a constant search of balance between lyricism and brutality, gentleness and decisiveness, devotion and rejection.
Who is Don Juan today? Is he an alter-ego of Hank Moody from the Californication series, who tries to alleviate his everyday slips with one-night-stands? Or the protagonist of the movie Shame, losing himself in desire? Or maybe the young man from the Euphoria series, hiding his distinctness under a mask of a sexual predator.
Especially recommended for: the seduced, the divorced, and the perpetrators of any more or less love-related disaster.
