R+J. ROMEO AND JULIET – Robert Bondara
Information
For Robert Bondara, the choreographer and director of the performance, perhaps the most famous love story serves as an inspiration for reflecting on a world governed by conflicts. While their context may vary – social, political, cultural, familial, corporate, etc. – the artist seeks to recognize contemporary Romeos and Juliets in every space. The archetype of the lovers becomes a foundation for creating a universal, timeless story that does not focus on the tragedy of the protagonists but, above all, symbolically alleviates the trauma they experience. The delicacy of love’s ecstasy, the strength in fighting for affection, and the courage to oppose what distances us from happiness and destroys our sense of security – all of this will be seen in the choreographic interpretation by the dancers of the Poznań Opera House. The performance will be complemented by chamber music, composed specifically for this project, as well as jazz and electronic music.
The performance features excerpts from Mahmoud Darwish’s poem Rita and the Rifle, translated by Hanna Jankowska. We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Mahmoud Darwish Foundation, which preserves the Poet’s legacy, for granting us permission to present the work.
