Pure Gombrowicz: irony, grotesque, and absurd. A slow deformation which we perhaps fail to see at first glance. Contradictions which we try to explain to no avail.

The Wedding is an opera adaptation of one of the essential dramas by Witold Gombrowicz, commissioned by the Poznań Opera House. Zygmunt Krauze, one of the leading Polish composers at the cusp of the 20^th and 21^st centuries, wrote the score. Yet, funnily enough, out of the three main producers, it is he who is working for the Poznań stage for the first time. Krzysztof Cicheński, who has been exploring theatrical spaces between dramatic and opera theaters for years, wrote the libretto and directed the performance. The director of music for the premiere performance is Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, who has numerous contemporary productions in her repertoire. Are we to, just like the main character of the story, Henryk, forsake all ideas, shake out of slumber, and assert that the reality surrounding us is nothing but a nightmare?
