Of all Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, The Snow Queen is particularly well-suited to the language of dance. Mirrored reflections, icy landscapes, and sparkling snowflakes make the characters' steps uncertain, as each seeks their own movement and rhythm. They tread lightly and tentatively, or with complete confidence in their navigation of this glittering world.
Amid the ambiguous, sensory-deceptive spaces, choreographer Robert Bondara tells a story of confusion and courage, of seeking and letting go, of growing up and experiencing loss, and of diversity. There are countless ways to narrate the tale of Kai, who fell under an illusion.

"My fairy tales are as much for adults as for children. (…) Children understand only the anecdote, and only as adults do they perceive and grasp the rest," wrote Hans Christian Andersen in his Journals, challenging the common belief that his works are solely for children. His stories reveal profound truths about ourselves and our lives. This perspective became immensely important in my work on The Snow Queen. While the performance is accessible to younger audiences, it was equally vital for me to create a ballet that allows us to look deep into our hearts. At the same time, I aimed to offer a production rich in visual splendor and artistic excellence, satisfying those who value the highest quality in art.
I invite you to a performance designed for audiences of all ages. Together, we will meet two close young friends, Kai and Gerda, whose fates are separated, giving us a chance to witness the extraordinary power of friendship.
