Gerard Jones

Gerard Jones, British opera director, is one of the most exciting members of the younger generation of directors. Winner of the last European Opera Directing Prize in 2018 in Zurich, he has presented several opera shows on the main stage of the Royal Opera in Covent Garden as well as at the Lynbury Studio/Wiltons stage, including “La Tragedie de Carmen” and Haendel’s “Orest”. He presented also a semi-staged of Siegfried wih Sir Mark Elder.

Calixto Bieito invited Gerard to stage a new piece based on Monteverdi’s madrigals in the season 2017/18 at Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, where Calixto is artistic director.

Gerard developed his career in direction collaborating extensively with Richard Jones, Graham Vick, Moshe Leiser & Patrice Caurier, Anthony McDonald, Kasper Holten, John Fulljames, Jan Philip Gloger and others at leading houses including the Salzburger Festspiele, ROH, Teatro alla Scala, Hamburg Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera, ENO, and a long list of other opera theatres with artists such as Cecilia Bartoli, Bryn Terfel, Simon O’Neill and Iain Paterson.
